Frequently Asked Questions

What will I learn in piano Lessons?

Every student is different, and what you or your child will learn is dependent on what your goals are. First we will sit down and have a discussion about what your musical interests are and what you you hope to gain from taking lessons. We’ll put a special emphasis on the types of music that interest you. Then we will build a personalized curriculum to start moving you or your child toward those goals.

Most students can expect to focus on:

  • Piano technique – Proper posture, finger dexterity, and control over the piano keyboard.
  • Music theory – Discover the building blocks and fundamentals that make music work.
  • Rhythm studies – Develop strong internal rhythm and the ability to play in time.
  • Music notation – Learn to sight read music at a glance.
  • Repertoire – Learn to play pieces of increasing difficulty within a broad mix of styles depending on what interests you most.
What ages are appropriate for piano lessons?

I teach adults and children ages 6 and up from beginner to advanced levels.

Do I need an instrument for practice?

Having a suitable instrument for regular practice is critical. An acoustic upright or grand piano is ideal. For digital pianos, I recommend a full size, 88-key keyboard with weighted keys.

How often will i have lessons?

Lessons will be once a week.

How long will lessons be?

Lesson time will depend on the age and skill level of the student. Younger students and adult beginners will most likely have 30 minute lessons. Intermediate and older students can benefit most from 45 minute or 60 minute lessons. We’ll work together to find the best fit for each student.

How much do lessons cost?

30-minute weekly lessons – $35/lesson
45-minute weekly lessons – $50/lesson
60-minute weekly lessons – $60/lesson
